Anthony Osler was born in Ipswich in 1938 and educated at Northgate Grammar School for Boys, Ipswich; the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester; and Southampton University. In a varied career he has always retained a passion for the East Coast and its assorted mixture of traditional craft and yachts and hidden creeks.
Anthony started to paint seriously when he was 28 after having the occasional illustrated article published in yachting magazines. This led on to associations with various galleries in East Anglia and beyond, and his becoming a full time painter at the age of 55. He has had many one man shows, including one in Paris, and has been involved with galleries in Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, USA, and in St. Malo, France.
He was a founder member of the respected East Anglian Group of Marine Artists and has exhibited with this Group at the Mall Galleries in London on many occasions. Anthony is also a committee member of the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists.
Anthony spends as much time as possible on his yacht “Merrielands” soaking up the atmosphere of the Suffolk and Essex coast and attempts to translate this feeling into his paintings. Anthony lives on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and has two grown up daughters and an array of grandchildren.
