NEWS – Exhibitions past and future
Our WaterWays exhibition at the Babylon Gallery is over and we are thrilled at the outcome.
A big thank you to
- The 43 members who submitted work for our first open exhibition since February 2020
- The 29 Friends of the SEAW and non-members who submitted 66 paintings for selection. Of these, 15 paintings were selected for exhibition
- Our hangers Ben Alden and Jan Couling for their skill in hanging a record-breaking 137 paintings
- The 36 Stewards who responded enthusiastically to the call for helpers and who engaged so willingly with visitors, other artists and Babylon staff
- Friends, artists’ families and non-members who stewarded and gave a helping hand
- Our 1953 visitors who came to see the exhibition and ALL visitors who bought 24 framed and unframed paintings, alongside 326 artist cards
- Our 7 Workshop leads – most workshops were fully-booked involving 46 participants, feedback continues to be very positive
- Each visitor who voted for their favourite paintings. All voters names went into a draw and one of them won £75 off a painting of their choice from either the WaterWays Exhibition or a future SEAW show.

What is next?
Our next open exhibition will be Awash 2022, our selected exhibition at the Handa Gallery, Wells Maltings, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk in February 2022. Further details will be coming out in a few weeks. The submission portal will open mid-November 2021 and close at the beginning of January 2022.
We are delighted that our Patron, Lillias August RI, and John Crossley RWS and Richard Sorrell NEAC, RBA, PPRWS, will be our judges and all of our sponsors have confirmed their support for this important SEAW show.
Call for poster artwork
Many of you loved Penny Newman’s ‘Beauty of Trees’ painting which featured on all of the posters, leaflets and flyers for Babylon as well as our social media. We are seeking images for Awash 2022. If you have any recent paintings that you think would be suitable and/or you are likely to submit the painting for Awash 2022, please send a photo of the image to Mel. Please note the image has to be high resolution. The deadline for sending us images is Sunday 31st October 2021. The chosen image will be used for all of our printed publicity for Awash 2022.
