Presenting your Work for Exhibition
Exhibitions, Workshops and Tutorials
Paintings:
If you are submitting framed paintings for one of our exhibitions, here are a few points to bear in mind:
- Cord or hanging wire should be fairly tight, but not so tight that one can hardly get a finger between it and the back of the frame.
- Screw eyes or D rings (much better than screw eyes) should be placed one-third of the way down the frame. It is not helpful to find some screws and wires only an inch or so from the top of the frame. Invariably these have to be altered.
- Only use good quality frames which will safely take the D rings or eyes and support the weight of the picture. Ensure that the wire or cord is of good quality and strong enough for the job. We have seen examples of extremely thin string and have had to replace it.
- Please ensure that there are no “foreign bodies” under the glass and that the glass is spotlessly clean.
- If you are stewarding and a painting is sold off the wall, it may be necessary to rearrange remaining paintings to accommodate one of the spares or to fill the gap with work already on the wall or screen. Please use your artistic intuition to ensure that the exhibition remains balanced.
- Your hanging team works very hard to ensure that all artists have their work displayed advantageously and, where possible, to hang a group of an individual artist’s work together. Please bear this in mind when selecting a group of works to exhibit.
Greeting Cards:
Please put the envelopes inside the cards so that descriptions (which should have Name of artist, the title of work, medium and size) is visible at the back of the cellophane wrapper. It’s very frustrating to like an image, turn it over and find no details on the back. Some have descriptions on a sticky label and that’s fine too but harder to get all the relevant information on.
