Watercolour and ink with Lesley Rumble

The opportunity to experiment in a non-judgemental way. Time to play. Lesley's fantastic support and generous sharing of knowledge

The ability to use different materials to those I normally would try.

The opportunity to use different products to create different textures, images and tones e.g inks, feathers, gesso, cling film, masking

Adding texture to watercolour with Caroline Furlong

Taking us through the different mediums first and practising each one before attempt from our painting. The level of support and guidance given by Caroline was excellent

I found it really enjoyable to have dedicated time to learn about, experiment and 'play' with different texture mediums under the guidance of a tutor, some of which I wasn't familiar with. It was also really good to have such individual tuition and to see through the tutor's own work how these different mediums work well in different contexts. It was all very inspiring and gave me a bit more confidence in my abilities.

Going with the flow with Alan Noyes

Alan is a very talented artist and a great tutor

Alan's methods, the washes and applications, use of different materials to create effects, glazing over washes all contributed to sessions that I had not experienced before. His teaching was good with individual assistance and guidance given at appropriate times.

New Watercolour Techniques which I shall use in my painting. Brilliant

Sketching with shapes - drawing for beginners with Linda Purdy

Small class very friendly

Linda's friendly approach and starting with basics of identifying shapes in pictures really helped me regain confidence with putting pencil to paper after a long time of not drawing.

Portraits in watercolour with Stephie Butler

The calm and professional way Stephie Butler teaches is amazing.

Stephie is a great tutor, sharing all her expertise and knowledge, lots of one to one tuition too. Stephie was willing to help and go over areas of the workshop if needed. Fabulous day! Would definitely like to do more.

The short, frequent demonstrations, and the individual attention.

Wildlife in watercolour and liquid charcoal with Stephie Butler

Learning how to use charcoal ink in watercolour painting . Another tool which I shall definitely add to my toolbox of watercolour techniques. Brilliant tutor who was totally engaging and supportive. I liked the practice session before starting our paintings. Lots of time to practice on several paintings which helped me to get better. A really well run workshop. Couldn't have asked for more other than a one to one session!

The chance to experiment with a new material and simply having the time to paint all day.....

Painting loose flowers with Vandy Massey

Freedom to play with the paint. I really enjoyed the chance to use watercolour in a different way.

Theory and explanation about watercolour, materials, mediums and use. Very helpful. practical tips for sourcing materials. Practical demo by artist . Individial guidance and learning from guidance to others in group. The way everyone made noticeable improvement in their flower painting. Challenging people to work out of their comfort zone and giving them support towards achievement.

The fact that Vandy is not only an amazing artist, but also an excellent teacher. She is a great encourager to try new techniques and full of enthusiasm for her subject.

Vandy’s enthusiasm and encouragement. I enjoyed it immensely and it helped me to be brave and loosen up!

Painting atmospheric landscapes with Vandy Massey

Instruction and tips on painting landscapes in watercolour Visual demonstrations of landscape painting by Vandy Individual tuition and guidance with each painting Responding to all questions from participants either verbally or through visual demo. Teaching a looser style of water colour painting of landscapes whilst recognising each participant's painting style. Encouraging participants to watercolour paint landscapes working outside the box. Absolutely brilliant day and brilliant tutor.

The input on the basic practice of graded washes, in a loose style, was presented in a way which couldn't have been better.
