Vandy Massey paints atmospheric landscapes, trees and flowers. Her inspiration comes from the natural environment. She grew up in South Africa, a place that still influences her painting in terms of her use of colour and interpretation of light.
Her work is expressive and loose, conveying a sense of energy and atmosphere in each piece. She is fascinated by the freedom and flow of watercolour and her painting style has evolved through a process of continual experimentation. She is particular about the quality of her materials, using artist-grade pigments and a specialist fine art watercolour paper for her paintings. Her paintings have been selected for awards in the SEAW’s selected exhibitions and at other independent group exhibitions.
Vandy held the role of chair of the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists for the four years from February 2016 to February 2020. She takes part in Cambridge Open Studios every year when she invites visitors of come and see her studio.
Vandy is passionate about artist development. She organises workshops taught by international artists who are at the top of their fields in order to provide development opportunities for other artists.
