This painting is of Cambridge Market sketched and photographed from the top of Great St Mary’s Church. It was a bright sunny day and the shadows and shafts of light were extreme. I visualised this painting as more of an abstract; the triangles of light, the colourful stripes of the Market stalls and the squares and oblongs of the buildings bordering the market, mostly in shadow.
