I used a variety of visual images to develop this painting including personal photographs, newspaper articles and observation. My picture tells the story of two family members meeting up again after a long absence. I wanted to paint the people gently and loosely emphasizing eyes, hands and expressions rather than a party-like atmosphere of celebration. There is sadness in this painting but also strength of a hug and surrounding family support. I also used bubble wrap on the scarf to give my painting a bit of texture.
