Most of you will have met Vandy in person during her tenure as Chair of the Society. As she takes a much needed break and hands the baton to Mel Collins, we thought it would be fun to find out more about her.

What led you to start painting:
A challenge I set myself. I decided to learn something new – and chose painting

Do you have a preference for painting style? If so, can you describe it?
Loose, expressive, splashy and generally, a lot of fun.

Describe your perfect weekend:
Hiking up a hillside with a sketchbook

The best thing ever invented was:
The Internet. Without it, we wouldn’t have the ability to discover so many fellow artists and make such fantastic connections with them… or set up the ability to paint together during lockdown!

My favourite game as a child was:
Climbing trees! Maybe that’s why they keep appearing in my paintings

The best thing I ever ate was:
Dark chocolate – especially if paired with oranges, cherries or a good Port.

If you could give your teenage self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Only one? If only I had known then what I know now….

My favourite place to paint is (and why):
My studio. I can get my favourite music or podcast going and get creative with paint for hours

Is there somewhere on your wish list of places to go and paint? If so, where and why
West coast of Scotland for it’s rugged beauty and wild landscape

Your favourite colour to paint with?
I have two Transparent Pyrrol Orange and Pthalo Turquoise
